April 2019 update of the Top 10 North Bay Battalion Prospects heading into the 2019-2020 season.
Leading the way is Joe Vrbetic who was our second ranked goalie in the 2002 age group and the club’s second-round pick in 2018. A 6’5’ goalie who imposes with size and tracks the puck very well, Vrbetic played this past season with the Powassan VooDoos in the NOJHL and was called up for one game with the Battalion.
Trailing Vrbetic is another 2018 pick, Kyle Jackson. Jackson starred as a 16-year-old for the Ottawa Jr. Senators, scoring 12 goals and totalling 54 popints in 51 games played, numbers that resulted in him being named the CCHL Rookie of the Year. He saw 12 games for the Battalion and should be poised for a productive rookie season in the OHL.
North Bay’s first three selections in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection all came from the juggernaut Don Mills Flyers Minor Midget AAA team and they are reflected here in the Top 10. First-round pick Liam Arnsby is followed by twin brothers Paul and Alex Christopoulos, and the trio will bring a winning pedigree and outstanding leadership to the organization for the next few years.
Local boy David Campbell, who both played for the 2002 North Bay Trappers Minor Midget AAA team, will be a likely bet to crack the roster.
2019 draft picks Steven LaForme and Devon Savignac are two players who should not be slept on. We had both pegged a little higher than where they ended up getting picked and they are capable of proving that they indeed should have gone sooner.
