goldcup

From May 3-6, OHL teams will get a look at their recent draft picks for the first time since they selected them at the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. Six minor hockey leagues across Ontario will send their all-star teams to compete in a eight-team tournament which acts as a showcase for OHL teams and their newest prospects.

The following is a team-by-team preview of the players that each OHL team has competing this week in Kitchener. Five team previews will be added each day leading up to the opening day of the tournament on Thursday.

Barrie Colts (7)
Foerester

GTHL Blue - Austin D’Orazio, D – 5th round, 87th overall
GTHL Red - Eric Russell, F – 3rd round, 56th overall
GTHL Red - Aidan Hughes, F – 8th round, 156th overall
HEO - Rocco Testa-Basi, D – 5th round, 96th overall
HNO - Ryan Beck, F – 6th round, 116th overall
OMHA Black - Tyson Foerster, F – 3rd round, 55th overall

**Colts fans will want to keep an eye on the two GTHL teams with four of their seven participants coming from those two teams. Hometown boy and 3rd round pick Tyson Foerster (pictured) from OMHA Black will also be one to watch - the Barrie Colts forward was one of the most improved players over the course of the season and an impact player down the stretch.**

Drysdale1Erie Otters (5)

GTHL Red - Jamie Drysdale, D – 1st round, 4th overall
GTHL Red - Ryan Alexander, F – 3rd round, 58th overall
NOHA - Justin Mauro, F – 15th round, 284th overall
OMHA White - Ethan Ritchie, D – 5th round, 81st overall
OMHA White - Logan Maunder, D – 6th round, 113th overall

**All eyes will be eye on 4th overall pick Jamie Drysdale (pictured) who is the best defensive prospect from the 2002 age group. Otters fans shouldn't sleep on defensemen Ethan Ritchie and Logan Maunder of OMHA White either, both were great picks in the 5th and 6th rounds respectively**

Flint Firebirds (6)

Power

GTHL Blue - Owen Power, D – 2nd round, 22nd overall
GTHL Blue - Michael Bianconi, D – 3rd round, 48th overall
HEO - Evan Boucher, F – 10th round, 182nd overall
OMHA Black - Evan Vierling, F – 1st round, 2nd overall
OMHA White -Ryan Mansfield, F – 5th round 82nd overall
OMHA White - Jack Harper, D – 7th round, 122nd overall

**The Firebirds had a strong draft headlined by 2nd overall selection Evan Vierling and 2nd round pick Owen Power (pictured). Power was a top 10 calibre prospect who slipped because of an NCAA commitment and you can bet the Firebirds staff will be out in full force to see him and communicate with him.**

Guelph Storm (7)

Alliance - Cooper Walker, F – 5th round, 91st overall
Alliance – Ben McFarlane, F – 6th round, 107th overall
GTHL Red – Luca Profaca, D – 8th round, 146th overall

OMHA Black - Ty Collins, F – 2nd round, 38th overall
OMHA Black - Spencer Smith, F – 3rd round, 47th overall
OMHA Black - Owen Bennett, G – 4th round, 67th overall

**The Storm had one of, if not the best draft in our opinion and will have seven good looking prospects at the tournament. 2nd round choices Zack Terry and Ty Collins, along with third round steal Spencer Smith and a top 10 goalie prospect in Owen Bennett will all be playing together on OMHA Black**

Const
Hamilton Bulldogs (5)

Alliance – George Diaco, F – 6th round, 101st overall
GTHL Blue – Davis Young, F – 2nd round, 34th overall
GTHL Blue – Marco Costantini, G – 5th round, 95th overall
GTHL Red – Michael Renwick, D – 2nd round, 34th overall
OMHA White – Logan Morrison, F – 1st round, 18th overall

**Right there with the Storm as having one of the best drafts in our eyes, the Bulldogs will have five very talented prospects in Kitchener. Skilled forwards Logan Morrison, George Diaco and Davis Young, one of the top offensive defensman in Michael Renwick, and our third ranked goalie Marco Costantini (pictured) will be good players to watch as they represent the Eastern Conference champions.**
