London’s Wendy Dufton Memorial Tournament is one of the most heavily scouted tournaments of the Fall season and the 2016 edition was no difference. Loaded with 32 teams from across Ontario and several entries from Michigan and Illinois, the Thanksgiving invitational offers non-stop action to file views of top prospects for the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.
Congratulations are sent out to the Ajax Pickering Raiders who captured their first tournament win defeating the Mississauga Reps 3-1 in the Championship game Sunday evening.
Top performers on the weekend include the uber-skilled Jamieson Rees of the Mississauga Reps, ultra-competitive Nick Robertson of the Toronto Red Wings, heady two-way pivot Brett Budgell of the London Jr. Knights and playmaker Connor McMichael of the Ajax Pickering Raiders.
On the blue line, it was Thomas Harley and Nathan Staios of the Vaughan Kings who turned heads while Chicago Mission’s Michael Black, Halton Hurricanes Mitchell Brewer, and Toronto Jr. Canadiens Mathew Hill logged some impressive performances as well.
TheScout.ca team of Andrew Sykes (Alliance) and Brendan Ross (Director of Scouting) had the tournament covered and filed the following report of top performers on the weekend.
In addition, we perform a team-by-team breakdown of other notable players who stood out and list worthy honourable mentions.
