Nail Yakupov was featured in a question-and- style interview on Russian hockey website Allhockey.ru where he is quoted as saying he is excited about coming to Canada and beginning his OHL career with the Sting. In a translation of the interview (provided by the sister of the Sting's other 16-year-old phenom Alex Galchenyuk), Yakupov says he expected to be chosen by the Sting and that he "really wanted to get picked by Sarnia ... In Sarnia they have good management, coaching staff ... In general, I was told that everything will be good and therefore I wanted to get picked by them." Yakupov, the top-rated 1993- born skater in Russia, adds he wants to play in the OHL because "I've heard it's the best. "I want to go to Canada," he adds. "I wanted to go to Canada a long time ago but I was afraid that I wasn't old enough and all my family is here (in Russia). But right now I just want to go there." Yakupov has already booked a flight to Canada and is expected to arrive in Sarnia on Aug. 19. His agent, Igor Larionov (who, along with Ian Pulver, also represents Galchenyuk) told The Observer on Friday that Yakupov is enthusiastic about playing in Canada and will turn his full attention to his OHL career immediately after he finishes play at a U-18 tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
